Jasmine Respess

My name is Jasmine Respess. I am a Floridian writer, editor, archivist, and researcher. I write about the intersections of my Black, Queer, Southern, and Caribbean identities in my poetry and nonfiction pieces. My archival and research work centers on the Black diaspora, spiritual traditions, and Caribbean folktales and lore. At New College of Florida, I spent much of my undergrad career as a journalist, so I utilize research and interviews with family and community members in much of my work. I earned an MFA in Poetry from The New School in New York in 2020. I live in North Miami with my two dogs. I currently serve as Editor-in-Chief of Islandia Journal.
