Jasmine Respess

My name is Jasmine Respess. I am a Floridian who writes about the intersections of my Black, Queer, Southern, and Caribbean identities. At New College of Florida, I spent much of my undergrad career as a journalist, so I utilize research and interviews with family and community members in much of my work. The tradition of magical realism has inspired me, and I explore folktales and lore in my poems and nonfiction pieces. I earned an MFA in Poetry from The New School in New York in 2020. I live in North Miami with my two dogs. I am an Acquisitions Editor with North Atlantic Books and Editor-in-Chief of Islandia Journal.
